Hello Readers.
High school was a hard time in my life as I am sure it was for many of you. I may have gotten along with most of my peers but it still was a struggle at times. Being a teenager is rough. It just is. Add in that you are surrounded by multiple people in the same self doubting struggles as you are in. It is a competition in a way. There are those popular kids that go out of their way to act better than everyone else. There are always those that want to fit in with them and just can't seem to break down that wall. There are those that could care less for the most part. This book definitely addresses this.
Tonight I am reviewing The DUFF: (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) by Kody Keplinger. Any quotes that may appear below are from the text and are not my words. I was hesitant about reading this one. The title alone threw me so I wasn't sure it was something that I wanted to read. It sat on my TBR list for a while. I had even thought about removing it. I am glad that I kept it on there and finally read it.
The DUFF is a fun read. The subject matter was written for an older teen/young adult audience. It isn't deeply profound or one that will be classified as classic literature but it deals with some very intense situations such as casual sex, alcohol abuse, abandonment, and self esteem issues. It was serious but also had comical moments. I found it to be a highly entertaining read. I could not put it down and read it in one setting. There is definitely something to be said about that.
I am assigning it Four Red Books because it was predictable and rather cliche at times. There were no true surprising moments. However, the characters and situations are relatable. I found myself genuinely liking some of the characters and was rooting for them before the book ended. I would definitely recommend this book.
