I am reviewing Fangirl: A Novel by Rainbow Rowell. I don't know where to start. I had never read any of the author's work so I was not sure what might be in store for me with this book. This was one of those that I just came across one day and thought, "This might be good.". Any quotes that may follow are from the text and not my words.
I loved this book from the moment that I started it. I related to the main character in so many ways. Some times it is much easier to avoid people and stay in a fantasy world. When online, you can be anyone and do anything. I am sure many of us can relate.
The character development in this book was fantastic. You see the evolution of the twins. One going in one direction and the other one headed in the opposite. It was interesting to see how two people that could be so similar could be so very different. Add in solid supporting characters and you have a very strong basis for a novel.
It is obvious that the author has been on the outside looking in on some things. Her personal feelings and emotions were very present. She takes our world and makes it different plus she created another subworld with the imaginery world that Cath mainly lives in. I get lost in my writing at times so I could definitely relate to that one.
Overall, this was a fantastic book. Since reading it, I have bought more of the author's work and hope to read them soon. I am rating this book Four Red Books because some of the events were highly predictable in a way that I predicted them within a chapter or two. Besides that, it was a strong book and an excellent read. Would definitely recommend!
