Description:
Would you risk everything for your happily ever after?

Arya thrives under the limitless blue waters of the NeverSea while Peter soars in the clouds high above—both perfectly designed for this harsh new world.

Stolen from their families, Arya and Peter were experimented on as young kids. Pushed to their breaking points, they escaped, but at a heavy price—Peter abandoned Arya when she needed him the most.

Years later, on a routine patrol, Arya comes face to face with Peter. A chance encounter with Arya's lost love, James, opens the door for Peter, the ousted leader of the Lost Boys, to regain Neverland—a floating settlement now controlled by the heartless witch who took them as kids.

Arya fights to protect the NeverSea while Peter only looks out for himself. Forced together once more, Arya must decide if she can trust him with so many lives at stake.

The Little Mermaid meets Peter Pan in this science fiction retelling of two beloved classics. Readers who enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles will love this epic, young adult series.

Hello Again!

I was hesitant with this book. I was not sure if the combination of the two worlds would work. Combining two dearly loved childhood worlds was a great risk. If executed properly, you have an amazing new look. If done improperly, you leave the readers with a deep sense of disappointment. It is very tricky. Not only did it work but it blended so perfectly that I was left in awe.

The beginning grabbed my attention. From the first page, I was transported into this amazing story. Beautifully written and captivating. The character development was astounding. Just the right combination of action and romance. It was so much fun picking out original story components. I was filled with a sense of nostalgia.

Thank you to the publisher for giving me a digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Five Blue Books because it had me from the moment I started. Such a great read! Also, the cover is superb. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. They cannot get into my possession quick enough! I am highly recommending this!

Description:  MAD Librarian is women’s crime humor that reads like Breaking Bad: The Library Edition. When the city cuts off funding for her library, Serenity Hammer embezzles from a neglected city fund that turns out to be the conduit for all state political corruption. Now she has all the money she needs to build the library her city deserves—if she can do it fast and stay alive.

Hello.

I spent some time working in a library when I was in college so this book called to me. I had to read it. Reading the blurbs about it, I worried that it would not stand up to the talk. Not only did it stand up but it captivated my attention. That is a task. I realize that it may not seem like one but it truly is.

Strong characters. I enjoyed the concept of a librarian on a mission. The main character was not only likable but I found myself geniunely rooting for her. Add in my love of libraries and I could not help but be in her corner. She has to save the library and is willing to do anything to do so. A woman after my own heart.

Thank you to NetGalley and Madison Press for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am rating it Four Red Books because there were some moments that I found hard to believe. I loved the premise and enjoyed the writing. Overall, I would recommed this book.

I have had multiple conversations with Emily about her books. She is a delight to talk to and obviously adores what she does. Her style of writing is refreshing and it is hard to put her work down to go about ordinary life. Her use of locales as an additional aspect makes one want to pack a bag and take a trip. I have high hopes for her. I really think she could go far with her work. I look forward to reading future pieces.

Changes Ahead...

Hello Everyone!

I have been thinking a lot about how I can make this blog better. I could sit down and write about all the events of my life but I am pretty sure that is not why you are here. You are here to read about books. Maybe you are here for recommendations to take you out of your comfort zone. Maybe you are just bored and trying to pass the time. No matter what brought you here, thank you. Thank you for taking the time to read the words of a nerdy tattooed bibliophile. I appreciate it.

As I was saying earlier, I want to make this blog better. Time for some changes.

  • Giveaways. Yes, you read that right. Giveaways! I am still working on the details but I will be hosting giveaways from time to time.
  • Author Spotlights. Have not figured out the frequency yet but I will be doing spotlights on authors. This is a good way to introduce people to authors that they may never have encountered before.
  • Series Spotlights. Some books are a part of series and so reviewing every single book in that series may be exhausting. Not just to me but also to you. I will be discussing some series as a whole (or at least up to where they currently are).
  • Video reviews. I am not sure when I will start this one but I hope to post videos once in a while of me reviewing books. I feel that this will allow you to see me more as a person and not just a machine that reads and reviews books quickly.
  • Blog Tours. I am currently in discussions with some authors about me taking part. This should be fun.

There you have it. There are the new changes that will soon be intergrated into this blog. I am sure that I will think of more so keep a look out. You never know what you may find here.

Adam Quinn and Eve McGinty have been bitter rivals for as long as they can remember. When they both apply for the same job as a trainee car mechanic only one of them can get it, and Eve is finding it hard to convince the misogynistic men who work there of her suitability for the role. Then Eve's younger brother, Jamie, is invited to join the rock band that the irrepressibly flamboyant Quinn and his friends have formed. But unfortunately the members of the band have made some dubious decisions in their eagerness to get a recording deal. When things turn nasty with the local psychopathic night club bouncers and drug dealers, Eve feels she has no option but to step in to prevent her brother being dragged down with the rest of the boys. As the consequences spiral out of control, Eve is forced to spend a lot more time with Quinn than she ever really wanted to.

Hi Readers.

What a surprise! This is one of those books that I thought might just be a fun quick read. It was much more than that. Wonderful growth in story. Fast paced and insightful.

I love a good coming of age story. Strong characterizations. Loved that they were not perfect and made mistakes. They were flawed and it was beautiful. Human beings are flawed and I find it refreshing when characters reflect that. Some of the characters took a little more time for me to embrace than others.

Thank you to the author for giving me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am rating it Four Red Books because it had a lot going on at times. Overall, it was a great read that was not as predictable as many in its genre. I am intrigued and will most likely seek out the other books in the series.

Hello.

Where do I start with this one? I don't normally read romances of this nature. The truth is that I tend to steer clear of  books when there are shirtless men on the cover. For years, I couldn't take them seriously. I recently opened up to the possibility of books like that being more than what I previously thought. I am very happy that I have. That being said, I didn't even really take note of the cover of this book until I was almost four chapters in. By then I was hooked.

This book is definitely one that I am happy that I was open to reading. It was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I had trouble putting it down. It took my idea of angels and altered it greatly. It was interesting reading the author's viewpoint.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. am rating this book Five Blue Books because it was truly a delight to read. A true struggle between Good and Evil story. I am interested in reading the other books in this series.

Description: Jude Holland is a man with a problem. His heart belongs to his best friend, but his best friend belongs to someone else. Maya Jenkins has a bigger problem. Her boyfriend’s jealousy and temper is controlling her life. When she plucks up courage to leave Carl, she reaches out to Jude.

Four years younger, her best friend has always made her feel safe. Maya has hidden her true feelings for Jude for seven years and coming out of an abusive relationship is not an appropriate time to reveal them—or is it?

After rescuing her from Carl’s clutches, Jude is shocked by how much Carl has destroyed Maya’s strong spirit. No longer the carefree, self-assured woman he once knew, Jude vows to help her pick up the pieces of her life. However, Jude didn’t bank on Carl’s unwillingness to let go.

Lemon Drops And Love is book one in the hot and steamy Cocktail Series. All books are full-length, standalone novels revolving around a collection of gritty characters. The men are hot hockey stick wielding guys and the women are not what they seem.

Weaving contemporary HEA romances around sometimes harrowing tales, Angela Stevens’ characters are raw and sensual. They speak as they play - hard and sometimes dirty, and they wear their hearts on their sleeves. But when any of the Hockey Punk guys fall for a girl, sparks are guaranteed to fly.

The Cocktail Series is best read with a cocktail or two, a bar of your favorite chocolate, and your preferred brand of tissues. Be warned, all the stories in the series are written for an adult audience. Contents contain hot sex and an emotional journey. There are chapters that will make you seethe and those that will make you cry, and others that will make you hot and flustered. But most of all, each story contains a heart felt tale of love, friendship, and a way of beating the odds.

Hello Again!

I got the opportunity to read this book and I jumped at it.  I thought that it might be one of those fun reads that allowed me a little escape.  I doubted that it would be little more than just a mushy romance with no real body it. I was so wrong.

Lemon Drops And Love by Angela Stevens is one of those that can be uncomfortable at times. The author does such a thorough job of telling the story that you feel like you are in it. You feel as though you know the characters personally and you find yourself furious with some of their decisions.  In fact, there is one that enraged me so greatly that I would daydream about ways to hurt him.

I am normally not one that reads romance novels. I tend to gravitate towards other genres. I will be the first one to admit it. Yes, this story is a romance but it is so much more. Some mystery. Some intrigue. It was hard to put down.

Thank you to the author for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.  I am rating it Four Red Books because it was very well written and a quite enjoyable read. I laughed. I cried. I felt pure fury. I was elated. I will definitely recommend it to others.

Cage has no memory of the past twelve months. According to him, Ro was alive only the day before. Ro’s sister Mae wouldn’t believe him, except that something’s not right. Nothing’s been right in the house since Ro died.

And then Mae finds the little green book. The one hidden in Ro’s room. It’s filled with secrets—dangerous secrets—about her family, and about Ro. And if what it says is true, then maybe, just maybe, Ro isn’t lost forever.

And maybe there are secrets better left to the dead.

Hello Readers.

This book completely slipped by me. I am usually pretty on top of book releases. I like to know what books are coming and when they come out. I missed this one and had no idea of its existence until I was sent a copy. I took one look at it and thought that it looked pretty interesting. The cover was eerily beautiful so I figured that I would give the book a try.

Wow! How can this be a debut novel? It definitely does not feel like one. The premise was excellent and the execution was near flawless. I was captivated within the first couple pages. The characters were so rich and multilayered. Nothing can put me off of a book quicker than characters that do not evolve at all. We tend to evolve and adapt to the world around us. It is refreshing when I read about characters that truly progress. Stagnant characterizations annoy me so much.

This novel was one of those that I had to fight with myself about sleeping because I did not want to stop reading. Creepy yet lovely. Complicated. Full of suspense. Sad yet fun. Romantic and heartbreaking. A truly enchanting read.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Four Red Books because it did have occasional moments here and there that were predictable. With that being said, it was a true delight to read. I will be recommending it.

Description: A tender love story pulls the reader back to previous lives and a time richly elegant. In modern day Chicago, deja vu draws together a handsome mounted policeman and the beautiful young woman who saves his life. Yesterday is also a harrowing tale of escape through the American Civil War, the heart wrenching love of slaves for their young white charges, and The Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In this historical romance, Mark fights through Amanda's rejection to prove that she will love again as she once loved - Yesterday.

Hello.

This book really hit close to home with me. I have been places that I would swear that I had been to before. There is nothing like stepping into a place and you know that you have never been to but yet you truly feel like you have been there. I have encountered people that I felt that I knew but had never met them before. That feeling is really something. Call it deja vu. Call it a strange coincidence. It is very much there and I am sure most people have experienced it at one time or another.

The author has the ability to paint a picture so well that you feel like you are there. You feel the breeze blow. You hear the traffic. That ability is a true skill. Many people claim to have it but very few people actually do. The characters were so likable that I found myself wanting to know them in real life.

Time and locations. What a gorgeous use of time and the area around them to help tell the story. Not everyone can write a time travel/reincarnation novel successfully. This book was truly remarkable in that regard. I felt like I was in modern day Chicago. I felt that I was on the battle field. The reader is transported to these locations with such elegance.

Thank you to the publisher for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Five Blue Books because it flowed well and kept my attention. The author has a beautiful way with words. I have already started recommending this book and will continue to do so. It was a delight to read.

Her mission becomes finding the truth in the misinformation, but Olivia will need to be careful—she can’t miss a clue or she’ll lose the love of her life.

Hello.

I must admit that I seem to have a weak spot for mysteries, especially ones of the cozy mystery variety. They are often fun to read. They have become ones that I turn to when under a lot of stress or needing a break from life.

I did not realize going into this one that it was the fourth book in the Happy Tails Dog Walking Mysteries Series. Thankfully, it could be read alone. There were some references from previous books but they did not detract from the overall story. This was an enjoyable book.

Thank you NetGalley and Relay Publishing for giving me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Four Red Books because it was predictable at times. I do wonder if my experience would have been more filling if I had read the three prior volumes. It was a very cute read and I would recommend it to other cozy mystery lovers.

Girl Logic: The Genius and the Absurdity by Iliza Shlesinger

Girl Logic: The Genius and the Absurdity by Iliza Shlesinger

Published on November 7, 2017
Genres: Entertainment, Humor
Page Count: 264

Format: eBook
πŸ“•πŸ“•πŸ“•πŸ“•

Description: From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships.

"Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes is as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world. When confronted with critical decisions about dating, sex, work, even getting dressed in the morning, Iliza argues that women will by nature consider every repercussion of every option before making a move toward what they really want. And that kind of holistic thinking can actually give women an advantage in what is still a male world.

In Iliza's own words: "Understanding Girl Logic is a way of embracing both our aspirations and our contradictions. GL is the desire to be strong and vulnerable. It's wanting to be curvy, but rail thin at the same time. It's striving to kick ass in a man's world while still being loved by the women around you.

"This book is also for me, because apparently expounding on a stage for two hours a night wasn't enough. (Trust me, if I could start a cult I would, but I hate the idea of deliberately dying in a group.)"

Hello.

This book had me laughing out loud. This would not have been that big of a deal had I not been around other people. It is hysterical and insightful. I had seen the author's special and was not sure if this book would make me laugh like her shows. It is obvious that this was a labor of love for her. It was refreshing that it is more than just jokes. She sends the message that girls are amazing and that they can do anything. She encourages women to be confident. It is highly relatable.

Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Books for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Four Red Books because it did have moments of drag but is a pretty solid read. Hilarious and empowering. Definitely worth the read.

Meanwhile, Lexy’s ex, Jamie, is acting strangely and appears to have a secret from everyone.

Can Lexy help Jamie deal with his dark secret? And is charismatic Clay Gable the one to bring Lexy’s defenses crashing down?

Hello.

I went into this book not sure what I was going to find. Tragedy hits on the first page and it was a fantastic introduction. Unlike so many romances that tend to be all sunshine and birds singing, this one has a true backbone and is a very rich story. I was captivated from the start.

This is the first of the author's books that I have encountered and so I really did not know what her writing style was. I was delighted to say the least. On point character development. From the moment that Lexy was directly introduced, I knew that I would like her. The supporting characters are endearing and I could see people I know or have encountered in them.

Scotland. I don't come across many books set in Scotland so this was a treat. It was a wonderful backdrop to the story and became a character in its own right. I found myself daydreaming at times. I think that a trip to Scotland may have now worked its way onto my bucket list.

Every once in a while I come across a book that can be read multiple times. This is one of those books now on that list. It was a delightful read. I was so immersed in it that I was sad in a way that it was over. I am definitely intrigued as to the future progression of the characters.

Thank you to the author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Five Blue Books because it made me want more. I finished it and automatically looked into other books that the author has written. I highly recommend it.

Hello Readers.

Some books come with so much hype that I tend to stay as far away from them as I possibly can. This one kept being brought back into my life. It ended up being a monthly read for a book group that I am in so I bought it. It was as though the stars had finally aligned to lead me to reading this book.

People kept recommending it but I did not expect to like it. To be honest, I didn't really want to like it. So much hype. The fact that it is being made into a movie just fueled the fire. I sat down with a hot tea to my left and thought, "Let's get through this. It can't possibly be that good."

Before I knew it, I owned it in multiple formats. I could not get enough of it. I related to the characters. I loved the premise. It made me think of all those video games that I played when younger. So many pop culture references. I got most of the references and would chuckle some when I remembered the past. So much nostalgia.

Not only did I like this book but I have already bought the other book by this author. I am rating this book Five Blue Books because I honestly cannot find fault in it. I loved how it took me back. I loved how it made me want to play all the old video games again. It was written by a true fanboy and you can feel it. I honestly am in shock at how much I loved this book. I will be highly likely to recommend it to possibly every person I meet.

Hello.

Choke Hold: A Novel by Gerald Everett Jones could be taken straight out of the headlines. This book is about a man killed by the police and the attorney that fights for justice for him. It is refreshing to see characters grow and become more confident. I was uncomfortable at times because it does feel so much like some of the recent events. It is very well written.

Thank you Netgalley and LaPuerta Books and Media for the digital ebook in exchange for a honest review. This novel is the first that I have read by the author. I am rating it Four Red Books because there were moments where it drug some. I am definitely considering reading more books by the author. I would recommend it.

Pavlov’s Dog moves to LA and ascends to stardom in a late-night talk show. Stan quits. He has flushed acting out of his system, until the Dog, sick and broke, needs money for an operation - having blown all his on chew toys and bitches... Hello.

What do you do when you are a struggling actor and your dog gets more jobs than you do? Pavlov's Dog by David Kurman gives us that scenario. Stan has to endure the humiliation when his dog is chosen for a job that he had tried out for. Can you imagine how that would feel?

This wasn't the best book that I have ever read but it was highly entertaining. The bond between a man and his dog is endearing. In a way, it is a love story about that unbreakable bond. There were moments where I was like, "What in the world?" but the amount of laughs I experienced outweighed the odd moments. The characters were easy to relate to and the reader sees them grow.

Thank you NetGalley and Roundfire Books for the digital eBook. I was given it in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Three Orange Books because it drug at times and was predictable in some aspects. It was a humorous book and I would probably recommend.

Description:
Dear Best Friend,
I can already tell that I will hate everyone but you.
Sincerely,
Ava Helmer
(that brunette who won’t leave you alone)

We're still in the same room, you weirdo.
Stop crying.
G

So begins a series of texts and emails sent between two best friends, Ava and Gen, as they head off to their first semesters of college on opposite sides of the country. From first loves to weird roommates, heartbreak, self-discovery, coming out and mental health, the two best friends will document every moment to each other. But as each changes and grows into her new life, will their friendship be able to survive the distance?

I Hate Everyone But You, the debut novel by two emerging major talents in YA, Allison Raskin and Gaby Dunn, is a story about new beginnings, love and heartbreak, and ultimately about the power of friendship.

Hello.

I really wanted to like I Hate Everyone But You: A Novel by Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin. The premise intrigued me and I found the format to be quite interesting. Little did I know that the format would end up throwing me some. It would take me a minute at times to remember what avatar was which girl in the text message components.

The premise was interesting and I am sure that some can relate to it. Two best friends are in colleges across the country. This book is how they keep in contact with each other during part of the time. Each navigates through classes, extra curricular activities, and interactions with people that interest them with the advice of the other one. Some advice is horrible. Some is great.

The characters did not really call to me as much as I had hoped that they would. Yes, I do know people like them but I did not find myself drawn to them. They find themselves stepping out of their comfort zones and quickly become people that they never thought they would be. I wish that I could say they truly grew from these experiences.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for giving me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Three Orange Books because I felt that the story was lacking at times and I did not feel invested in the characters. Also, the cover for the US edition is not appealing. I do not know about the other editions but the US one is just not good. I am not sure that I would recommend this book.

Description: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Hello.

I realize that I am entering this world way later than most. I don't know how I managed to avoid this book for so long. A close friend of mine finally called me out on it and told me that I had to read it. I took her advice and bought a copy as soon as I could.

I could not read this book fast enough. It is full of these amazing characters and other worlds that most people would never believe existed. How would you respond if you saw something and you would swear that either your eyes were tricking you or you had just witnessed a heinous crime?  Worlds collide and you have no idea as to what may happen.

I cannot even begin to tell you how fantastic this book was. I found myself saddened when I closed that cover. Then I had that moment of bliss that one has when they read a book so good that they know they are going to live in that world for a while. Thankfully, I did not have to wait too long to read the next volume.

I am rating this book Five Blue Books because it was a wonderful way to start a series. It is proof that some people can know you so well that they can pick out the perfect book for you. I recommend it to anyone that will listen.

Description: Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill, but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.

What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents, she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

Hello again!

I picked up this book one day simply because I was looking for something fun to read. This was exactly what I was needing at that time. It was a great read. I read it one weekend. It captured my attention from the first page. Fast paced and funny.

Poppy goes from being on top of the world to having the worst possible time ever. Lost ring. Lost phone. Strange phone belonging to a very busy businessman. The chaos and silliness follows. Imagine dealing with all the calls and email that would come to a business phone. It is hard enough sorting through the details of your own life. Now add in the details of a perfect stranger. It definitely makes for an interesting read.

I really enjoyed this book. I am rating it Four Red Books because there were moments that were predictable. Kinsella does not disappoint with this one. I would recommend it to anyone that needs that little venture into someone else's chaotic yet humorous world.

Baby Energy For Sale

Yes, you read that right. I am currently thinking about bottling up baby energy and selling it. Need to work out the details but I am sure that I have a billion dollar idea with this one. Details will follow.

Good Morning,

Last night was another long one so I should not be responsible for the nonsense that I may produce today. My youngest has decided that she is a night person so she wants to talk and play when most people are attempting sleep. Coffee is a dear sweet friend.  At least I got some reading done when she could not sleep.

This makes me wonder about something. Do you read multiple books at a time or just one? I currently am working on five. I know that I have discussed this before but I often wonder how others approach it. I get some of the weirdest looks when someone asks me how many I read. I guess this may not be common or at least as common as I once thought it was.

What genres do you prefer? I am all over the place when it comes to the types of books that I read. Been reading a lot of romance and fantasy these days. I get in the mood some times and will read one genre for weeks and then turn around and not read another book from that genre for a while.

Going to attempt to adult now.

Not Enough Hours

Do you ever find yourself thinking that 24-Hour days are just not long enough? I have times like this often. I will attempt to get everything done in a 24-Hour period and still get sleep and I find myself coming up short. I wanted to read for a couple hours today and review but I am just now really getting a moment to myself and all I want to do is sleep. Sad but true.

Hope to get a review or two up for you tomorrow. I could write them now but I am pretty sure that you would all stop reading because they would make absolutely no sense. No one wants that.

Headed to bed shortly. I will attempt to get some sleep before the little ones in the house decide that I have had enough sleep and should tend to them. I wonder what it is like to have more than three hours of uninterrupted sleep. I honestly do not remember.

Hope that you all are having a wonderful week and are reading fantastic books!

Description: The first ten lies they tell you in high school.

"Speak up for yourself--we want to know what you have to say." From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda knows this is a big fat lie, part of the nonsense of high school. She is friendless, outcast, because she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops, so now nobody will talk to her, let alone listen to her. As time passes, she becomes increasingly isolated and practically stops talking altogether. Only her art class offers any solace, and it is through her work on an art project that she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party: she was raped by an upperclassman, a guy who still attends Merryweather and is still a threat to her. Her healing process has just begun when she has another violent encounter with him. But this time Melinda fights back, refuses to be silent, and thereby achieves a measure of vindication. In Laurie Halse Anderson's powerful novel, an utterly believable heroine with a bitterly ironic voice delivers a blow to the hypocritical world of high school. She speaks for many a disenfranchised teenager while demonstrating the importance of speaking up for oneself.

Hello.

This book was one in a lot that I purchased and I wasn't sure what do think of it. The subject matter is so intense. High school is hard enough. Add in the trauma inflicted upon the main character and the way that the world treats her. Well executed approach to a difficult subject matter. Horrifying to think about something like this impacting anyone much less someone so young.

I am rating this book Four Red Books. It was well written but there were times where it drug. I would recommend it.

Description: The Arctic region of North America is a land of long days, icy cold, hardy people and peculiar creatures. The Inuit people there have made traditional use of remarkable folk tales to find truth and explain the mysteries of an astonishing world.

In Fish-Boy: An Inuit Folk Tale, Vanita Oelschlager retells a tale passed down by a wise old Inuit. It's an origin story involving a little magic and a very odd boy with a large heart for friendship. On a journey with his new father, he must confront misfortune and the malice of cold hearted villagers. But he has a way...and a lesson for all in the virtues of kindness and hospitality.

Here then, is high praise for the tale-tellers: for the richness, diversity and creativity they send from the top of the world- and so, also Fish Boy, An Inuit Folk Tale, retold here and lavishly illustrated for a new generation. After all, that is how ancient folk tales and truth live on in the telling.

Hello once again!

How does one review a book written for ages six to nine years old? It is tricky. Fish-Boy: An Inuit Folk Tale is a beautiful book. It is well written. The illustrations are gorgeous!

Thank you Netgalley and Vanita Books for giving me a digital copy for review. I am rating this book Four Red Books because it is a little wordy at times. The younger side of the age demographic it was written for may have issues with that and lose interest. I would recommend this book.

Description: What if the person you need the most is someone you’ve never met?

Funny and romantic, this tug-at-your-heartstrings contemporary YA debut is perfect for readers of Rainbow Rowell, Jennifer Niven, and E. Lockhart.

Everything about Jessie is wrong. At least, that’s what it feels like during her first week as a junior at her new ultra-intimidating prep school in Los Angeles. It’s been barely two years since her mother’s death, and because her father eloped with a woman he met online, Jessie has been forced to move across the country to live with her stepmonster and her pretentious teenage son.

Just when she’s thinking about hightailing it back to Chicago, she gets an email from a person calling themselves Somebody/Nobody (SN for short), offering to help her navigate the wilds of Wood Valley High School. Is it an elaborate hoax? Or can she rely on SN for some much-needed help?

In a leap of faith—or an act of complete desperation—Jessie begins to rely on SN, and SN quickly becomes her lifeline and closest ally. Jessie can’t help wanting to meet SN in person. But are some mysteries better left unsolved?

Hello.

There are some books that I pick up and cannot put down. Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum was one of those books. I was looking for something to read that I could relate to. I am a sucker for the underdog story. Girl comes to a new school and everything in her life has been turned upside down. She wants to fit in yet truly doesn't. She does her own dance in life. This makes it difficult for her to make friends. It also makes her a target.

There will always be those girls that go out of their way to cause other girls issues. They pick apart every thing different about them and try to belittle them at every turn. Poor Jessie. Nothing she does seems to be right. She needs an escape. She needs a friend. Enter a mysterious person determined to encourage her.

I cannot begin to explain how much I enjoyed this book. The characters are wonderfully written and we all know people like them. The overall writing was very good and flowed well. I am rating this book Four Red Books because it was predictable at times. That being said, I would definitely recommend it and will be reading more of the author's work.

Description: A captivating tour of the bookshelves of ten leading artists, exploring the intricate connections between reading, artistic practice, and identity

Taking its inspiration from Walter Benjamin’s seminal 1931 essay, the Unpacking My Library series charts a spirited exploration of the reading and book collecting practices of today’s leading thinkers. Artists and Their Books showcases the personal libraries of ten important contemporary artists based in the United States (Mark Dion, Theaster Gates, Wangechi Mutu, Ed Ruscha, and Carrie Mae Weems), Canada (Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller), and the United Kingdom (Billy Childish, Tracey Emin, and Martin Parr). Through engaging interviews, the artists discuss the necessity of reading and the meaning of books in their lives and careers.

This is a book about books, but it even more importantly highlights the role of literature in shaping an artist’s self-presentation and persona. Photographs of each artist’s bookshelves present an evocative glimpse of personal taste, of well-loved and rare volumes, and of the individual touches that make a bookshelf one’s own. The interviews are accompanied by “top ten” reading lists assembled by each artist, an introduction by Jo Steffens, and Marcel Proust’s seminal essay “On Reading.”

Hello.

Unpacking My Library: Artists and Their Books is exactly what you would think it is. The readers are taken into the world of the artists and shown their book shelves. Seeing what titles and authors influenced the artists allows the reader insight. This book shows us another side to the artists in a lovely way.

Thank you Netgalley and Yale University Press for a digital copy of this book. I am rating it Five Blue Books because it does exactly what it was supposed to do. It was very well done. I would look into the other volumes in this series. Recommendation is likely.

Description: "Sex and the City meets Magic Mike in this hilarious tale of love, friendship, and finding yourself."

Stacie Gregory and her three closest friends share the same secret: they’re all mid-twenties virgins. It's never been an issue before, but when one of them loses their virginity it sets off a race the others don’t want to lose. The last one with their V-card will never live it down.

Stacie’s solution is simple - she’ll seduce her favorite male stripper. If he does other things half as well as he dances she’ll have no problem winning the war against her friends. Only it’s not as easy as she thought. Turns out even strippers have baggage, and she has way more to lose than her virginity. With her plans for a grand seduction in ruins, Stacie must decide what’s more important: Love or Sex.

Hello Readers.

Virgin Wars by Sarah Bale was one of those books that I had trouble putting down. I read it in two sittings and that was only because of life distractions. Surprises at every turn. Well developed characters. Friendship dynamics are good and then complicated. There were moments where I could have automatically written off one or two of them because of catty behavior.

Though I enjoyed the book, the scenario has been done to death. Virginal pacts/races are a common theme. There were moments of some confusion. I questioned the lack of support in some situations.

Thank you Netgalley and Sarah Bales Publishing for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I am rating it Three Orange Books because of the reasons stated above. This book wasn't truly for me but I would read other books by the author.
